Ten Bob Note

Monday 10th September 2007

Location: Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxford canal

Today: 2 miles, 2 locks. Total distance: 551 miles.  Total locks: 406

Mild, sunny spells. Good t-mobile 3g reception here.

Pulled the pins around 08:00 and headed down to Banbury. Moored up at the short term visitors moorings and spent most of the day wandering around the town. Not the best moorings in the area but when we tied up, we didn’t expect to be staying the night. We have more shopping to do tomorrow so will probably move on late morning.

There is a very small boat yard (Sovereign) opposite selling diesel for 49p per litre. Will top up tomorrow before we leave. Will also see if they will exchange the 6kg Calor gas cylinder for a 15kg one.

Checked out the train station location for Rhonda's upcoming trip down to visit Lindsay, it’s only about 100 yards from the canal and very easy to get to.

There is a very large Tesco about a half a mile from bridge 163. We walked there with the dogs this afternoon to take a look at the shopping area. There is a Halfords, B&Q, Homebase and the usual large out of town shops close to Tesco. We will go back there in the morning and do a shop before we leave the town.

All in all, Banbury has everything you could ask for as regards shops. It’s a nice place and well worth a visit.

The Banbury cross

Note the sun dial just below the top middle window - it works too
