Lots of very heavy rain overnight and there was a noticeable increase in the flow on the river this morning. We were struggled to reach two miles an hour in places where the river narrows.
The heavens opened about 3 miles south of Stratford and it poured down. The last couple of locks were showing the river level bordering into the red.
Arrived at Stratford to find no room in the basin so we had to moor on the river – Stratford is always a popular place for mooring. We are in sight of the lock that takes us off the river and into the canal system so if there is more rain and the river goes into flood, we can get off it quickly. The good news is that the forecast does not predict more heavy rain….
Current Mooring

Bidford bridge

Bidford church

Corn beaten down

Nice house by the river

A typical river Avon lock - violent gate paddles on the top gates

Bow and stern ropes are required

The rule is that gates are to be left open when leaving the lock

The weir is usually close by!! - lock is on the left
