Well, we have reached the end of the line as far as the river Lee is concerned as Hertford is as far as it is possible to go.
We moored up at the Hertford visitor moorings around lunch time and went for a wander around the town. Hertford is a small town but there is everything here that you could ask for. There are even two train stations, Hertford East and Hertford North.
We had heard stories about the locks on the Lee being in poor condition and hard to operate. One boater I spoke to a few weeks ago while moored in Limehouse Basin told me that they wouldn’t be up the Lee again because of the difficult locks. We have found them all to be in very good condition and apart from some of the gates being heavy, operating them has been no problem at all. Just goes to show, it doesn’t pay to listen to rumours some times. We have enjoyed our trip up the river, it’s just a shame that we have to turn around and head back the way we came.
