Friday 19th September 2008 Location: Little Haywood, Staffordshire, Trent and Mersey Canal Today: 11 miles, 5 locks. Total distance: 1724 miles. Total locks: 1221 Had a lovely peaceful night last night moored out in the countryside, much better than the two previous nights at Stoke and Stonefields where the dogs were constantly disturbed by dog walkers, runners, cyclists etc. at all hours. Pulled the pins at 08:00 with the intention of a leisurely cruise down to Great Haywood and mooring up early in a nice spot for the weekend. We were delayed for a short while on the way when we spotted a large branch of dead Ash lying in a field beside the towpath – it was too good to resist so out came the chainsaw. We arrived at Great Haywood around mid day and the area was overflowing with moored boats. We pottered down the Staffs and Worcester for a mile but same story. Turned around and headed back to the Trent and Mersey then on down to Little Haywood where we moored a ways back from Wolseley Bridge in a nice quiet spot that we have moored at before. Today has been a very busy day as far as boat traffic is concerned. At one point, we counted 6 boats all heading north in a convoy, it must be the fine weather that is bringing everybody out for the weekend?
