Ten Bob Note

Tuesday 16th September 2008

Location: Stoke on Trent, Cheshire, Trent and Mersey Canal

Today: 10 miles, 1 lock. Total distance: 1698 miles.  Total locks: 1201

Pulled the pins around 07:30 and headed down to Kidsgrove. Moored up near the train station and walked the short distance to Tesco to do a shop. Just about everything we bought today was more expensive than it was the last time we did a shop in the same Tesco store around a month ago – a sign of the times.

Had lunch before pulling the pins and joining the queue at the Harecastle tunnel. We timed it wrong as we had an hour to wait before we could enter the tunnel. The water level was a good nine inches lower than normal today as they are doing some maintenance work in the area – it gave us an extra nine inches of head room in the tunnel.

Moored up at the Westport Lake and took the dogs for a pleasant walk around the lake. We have passed here a couple of times before but this is the first time that we have moored here – it makes a nice change.

Current Mooring

Nice little house - just north of Scholar Green
