Ten Bob Note

Monday 7th April 2008

Location: Devizes, Wiltshire, Kennet & Avon Canal

Today: 6 miles, 0 locks. Total distance: 1291 miles.  Total locks: 830

Pulled the pins and had an easy run to Devizes, only two swing bridges to operate on the way.

Moored up at the start of the Caen locks. There are 29 of them in quick succession – will be a busy day when we go down them.

We walked into Devizes (a very short walk from the canal) and picked up some shopping. Devizes is a nice market town with a good variety of shops – well worth a visit.

We phoned Chivers coal merchant in Devizes as we heard that they will deliver to boats. The lorry turned up as arranged at 13:10 and we took delivery of eight 25kg bags of Wildfire at £7.65 per bag. Not a bad price compared to marinas in this area but still a little bit on the expensive side compared to what we have been paying for coal up north (£6.10 per 25kg bag for the last lot). We should have enough coal to keep us going for a good while now.

The pile of  logs on the roof is well depleted now so we will have to start looking out for dead and fallen trees.

Current Mooring

One way to save on fuel costs - tow it with a row boat!!
