Location: Kintbury, Berkshire, Kennet & Avon Canal
Today: 5 miles, 5 locks. Total distance: 1261 miles. Total locks: 804
Pulled the pins around 08:00 and headed on westward.
A beautiful day – first day in a long time that I didn’t need a coat.
We passed through some lovely countryside today and saw our first set of ducklings for this year – photo below.
A fairly short and relaxed day today. Stopped at Kintbury for water and decided to stay on here as it looks like a lovely place. We spoke to a chap on a boat at the water point, he said he was just leaving after spending the winter here – he confirmed that it is a lovely location.
We passed a horse drawn trip boat this morning – first one we have ever passed – photo below.
We need to travel to Cornwall for a few weeks around the 24th April and have been phoning around all of the marinas on the K&A to see if we can get a short term mooring. We would prefer to leave the boat around the Devizes area as that is where we expect to be late April. So far the only ‘possible’ we have found is back at Newbury. I say possible because even Newbury is not a guaranteed place. Devizes marina is trying to see if they can work something out for us and has promised to phone us back over the next day or so – fingers crossed!!
Friday 28th
Well, the weather is back to normal, cold wet and windy.
We walked up through the village yesterday afternoon, there is a handy stores there but not a lot else.
Will be staying put today due to the lovely weather.
