Ten Bob Note

Tuesday 24th July 2007

Location: Audlem, Cheshire

Today: 5 miles, 20 lock. Total distance: 284 miles.  Total locks: 256

Warm, mostly sunny.

Arrived at Audlem around 13:00 and moored up for the day (may be longer?).

Walked into the village, it’s a lovely place. Wish I had taken my camera with me. Will pop back tomorrow morning for the papers etc. but the weather forecast is for more rain so taking photos may be out.

Moored in a nice spot again, well impressed with the Shropshire canal, lots of lovely places to moor. Only problem worth noting is that it has not yet been possible to get the boat all the way into the side due to the lack of depth. Not a big problem just strange that it seems to be the same all the way along the canal so far.

Not had the fire lit today – but the day is not over yet and I can see dark clouds forming in the distance. What an awful summer so far. It hasn’t really bothered us much apart from getting held up on the Severn as we have been able to travel most days that we wanted to. Normally at this time of year, we have the BBQ on every other night. I think we have only had it lit a dozen times so far this summer – in fact, the BBQ had more use in the spring this year than it has had during the summer!!

Wednesday 25th

Decided to stay on for another day at Audlem.

Walked into the village this morning to get the papers and to take a photo of the church (see below).

Funny weather today, mild but drizzle. Was quite cold first thing this morning so lit the fire.

There is not a lot of traffic on the canal considering it is now peak season, must be the weather. The hire boat companies must be feeling the effects of all the the rain.

The Shroppie Fly pub, canal side, Audlem NOTE: a bit of blue sky!!
