Ten Bob Note

Monday 14th July 2008

Location: Braunston, Northamptonshire, Oxford Canal

Today: 10 miles, 13 locks. Total distance: 1542 miles.  Total locks: 1136

Up early again this morning and pushed on to Braunston.

Worked our way up the Stockton flight, they are an easy flight of locks set in lovely countryside.

Phoned around the local marines to check out their diesel prices. Calcutt came out best at 86 pence per litre. Stopped at Calcutt on the way past and filled up. We needed 139 litres to fill the main tank and the two 10 litre cans that we carry for topping up the generator.

Arrived at Braunston around mid day and managed to get the one and only spot along the Puddle Banks where we can get the boat right into the side. The rest of the moorings along the Puddle Banks have sloping sides and it is not possible to get right into the side.

Went for a meal in the Old Plough in the evening, it was not as good as usual but was still nice. The land lady was away so that may account for the reduced quality.
