Ten Bob Note

Monday 19th May 2008

Location: Froxfield, Wiltshire, Kennet & Avon

Today: 5 miles, 10 locks. Total distance: 1346 miles.  Total locks: 923

We had to wait until 08:30 this morning before we could move off as the pound between locks 60 and 61 is running at a reduced water level due to repair works in progress. The locks are closed between 16:30 and 08:30. There is very little water in the pound and if you stray a few feet off centre you end up aground.

Stopped off at Great Bedwyn to pick up some bread and goodies from the bakery there. The bread and cakes are baked on the premises and are lovely – well worth a visit.

We continued on to Froxfield and decided to moor up for lunch and over night. There is no t-mobile or Orange reception here at all so will have to wait until we reach Hungerford before we can upload the web site.

After lunch we went for a lovely 3.5 mile circular walk through the countryside with the dogs – see map here.
