Ten Bob Note

Wednesday 2nd January 2008

Location: Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxford Canal

Today: 2 miles, 1 locks. Total distance: 986 miles.  Total locks: 642

Cold day. Good t-mobile 3g reception here.

First diary entry for 2008. Happy New Year to everyone reading this.

We decided that we would head back towards Braunston again then perhaps on towards Crick..

Pulled the pins around 09:00 and reversed half a mile back to the nearest winding hole. If we had carried on to the next winding hole in front of us it would have taken around 4 hours just to get back to where we started so I decided that it was preferable to reverse even though the breeze was getting up. All in all, it took around an hour to travel the half mile backwards.

We stopped off near Morrisons and picked up some shopping. Morrisons only had a few bottles of my favourite Rose wine left so we will pop into Tesco on the other side of Banbury tomorrow to see if they have any. We bought a half price turkey so will have a Turkey dinner on Friday night - we had rib of beef on Xmas day.

Moored up beside Sovereign wharf and walked the short distance into Banbury town centre.

I suspect we are not going to get a great night sleep tonight as we are moored directly across from a bakery that works 24 hours a day. We moored here back in September and were disturbed on and off during the night by delivery lorries coming and going at the bakery. We would have preferred to moor up elsewhere but there were not a lot of choices in mooring spots and we wanted to be close to town, B&Q and Tesco.

Will move on tomorrow and probably stay at Cropredy for a day or so. The weather forecast is for very cold weather with possibly some sleet and snow!!

Update Thursday 3rd 07:30

Well, have been awake half the night because of the noise from the bakery and from the dogs barking at various other noises. We thought this would be the case so are not complaining. Will make a point of not mooring here again!!

Current mooring
