Ten Bob Note

Wednesday 7th November 2007

Location: Cheddington, Buckinghamshire, Grand Union

Today: 12 miles, 27 locks. Total distance: 864 miles.  Total locks: 574

Cool day. Good t-mobile 3g reception here.

Phoned BW first thing in the morning to find out when the lock would be open and we were told sometime in the afternoon.

Fired up the chainsaw and cut up a load of wood that we have collected over the last week or so. The saw did an excellent job and we had a nice pile of logs in no time at all. I would not be without a chainsaw now!!

We got the go ahead to move on from BW at around 12:00. It was nice to be on the move again. We travelled up as far as Berkhamstead with nb Out Of The Blue. Lots of locks over a fairly short distance. Moored up for the night at Berkhamstead as it was getting dark. We walked into the town to pick up a fresh chicken from Tesco to cook on the BBQ. Berkhamstead is a nice town.

Thursday 8th.
We were up fairly early and pulled the pins at around 07:30. We managed to cover 9 miles and 18 locks today. We are pushing on as we would like to get to Braunston before the 19th as Braunston locks are going to be closed from the 19th November to 21st of December. It started to rain around 14:30 so we stopped and moored up for the night. It is lovely to be moored up out in the countryside again.

It was nice to meet Chris J W from the Canal World Forum this morning.

Current mooring

Nice pile of logs - note amount of sawdust on tow path from chainsaw

Strange boat

Has seen better days!!

Note the leaves on the water - need to clear the prop every few hundred yards
